Usually, I’m not one to play it safe. But, since we were cooking on low for 7 hours (and at high for 3 hours) instead of the usual 30 minutes or so that it takes on the stovetop, I thought it best to line the crock pot with parchment paper. It worked like a charm! And then there was that whole issue of how to get rid of runny cheese sauce… Since I was using a slow cooker liner anyway, I just used foil and let the cheese sauce flow right through onto another piece of foil. No biggie! You might be wondering why you should use heavy cream instead of milk or half-and-half for this recipe? The reason is simple: Heavy cream has more fat than milk does; therefore you end up with more lusciously creamy results! This makes it especially good if you have company over because everyone loves creamy macaroni and cheese! My friends will tell.
